Standards as a pathway to achieve net zero

We note that achieving a 50% reduction by 2030 will require an average annual reduction of around 7%, following the 'Carbon Law' as a rapid roadmap to global decarbonisation. There is compelling evidence of the positive impacts of agroecology on the environment, biodiversity, farmers' incomes, resilience, and adaptation and mitigation to climate change. The BidCarbon Standard Scheme provides a comprehensive global benchmark for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with a particular focus on Internet of Things (IoT) technology solutions. Our rigorous criteria ensure that initiatives exceed carbon reduction targets, while encouraging research and innovation in sustainable agriculture.

Strong foundation

Without up-to-date international standards, industry and other stakeholders will not be able to achieve the necessary targets. The BidCarbon Standard Scheme, based on ISO standards and the London Declaration, will help project developers to accelerate and simplify the start-up of their climate change projects. This in turn will help accelerate the successful delivery of the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Call for Action on Adaptation and Resilience.

All projects within the BidCarbon Standard Scheme undergo assessment via the Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE) with regard to non-carbon benefits. TAPE evaluates various types of production systems and sub-sectors, including crop and livestock production, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry. Baseline agricultural sustainability can be established via TAPE to aid in project design, monitoring, and evaluation. Moreover, TAPE can analyse and compare the performance of diverse agricultural systems over time on both farm and territorial levels. Therefore, it has the potential to enable the realignment of public investment towards more sustainable agriculture and food systems.
