CDRC owners and registered agents can sell CDRCs through either the:

open market for an uncapped price

BidCarbon marketplace for an fixed price.

BidCarbon removal unit owners usually assign the right to create CDRCs to agents. Once assigned, the system owner is no longer involved in CDRC matters.

All sellers and buyers must have a valid BUC Registry account to trade certificates.

Open market

In the open market, agents typically create contracts with entities that need to acquire CDRCs to meet climate obligations.

Pricing in the open market will fluctuate regularly and doesn't have a maximum limit.

Pricing responsibility

We do not regulate the open market. It is the responsibility of the CDRC owner to find a buyer and agree on a purchase price.

The BidCarbon marketplace is a facility in the BUC Registry to support CDRC owners, registered agents and entities buy and sell CDRCs at a fixed price.

Depending on demand, CDRCs may join the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list if there are more sellers than buyers. This is a first-in-first-served system, the latest offers are added to the bottom of the list.

The status of the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list is available in the BUC Registry and updated hourly.

Buying CDRCs

If there aren't any CDRCs available for sale in the BidCarbon marketplace, certificates are substituted with 'Operating Companies created CDRCs' for buyers to purchase. These CDRCs can be traded and surrendered as ordinary CDRCs.

Payment must be received in full before CDRC's are released from the BidCarbon marketplace.

Once payments are cleared, we settle the purchase and CDRCs are transferred into the buyers BUC Registry account.

The BidCarbon removal units (BRUs) within those CDRCs are then retired from the BidCarbon Units and Certificates (BUC) registry.

Therefore, retirement of a BRUs indicates that it has been utilised and is no longer available for sale or trade on the carbon market.

Withdrawing CDRCs for the BidCarbon marketplace

A seller may remove their sale offer from the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list at any time. This occurs if a seller decides to sell their CDRCs to a buyer (such as an agent) outside of the BidCarbon marketplace and at a negotiated price.

A seller may only withdraw sales for CDRCs if an offer to buy hasn't been received on the BidCarbon marketplace.

Transferring CDRCs ownership

You can transfer CDRCs for a privately negotiated price to a new owner even if the certificates are on the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list.
