Audit team leader requirements

As an audit team leader, it is essential to adhere to the guidelines outlined in Part 2 of the Codes of Practice.

As the leader of the audit team, your responsibilities include:

ensure that all members of the audit team possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and availability to adequately prepare for and conduct the audit.

supervise the work of each member of the audit team and personally participate in preparing for and conducting the audit.

document the process used to prepare for, carry out, and report on the audit in compliance with the Codes of practice.

ensure that the audit is carried out and reported on in compliance with the Specifications, the terms of the engagement for the audit, and the auditing and assurance standards (for more information on applying auditing and assurance standards, see section 1.6 of the Audit Codes of Practice Handbook)

make sure the peer reviewer you choose conducts a comprehensive review.

Complete a declaration of independence and conduct

Before agreeing to the terms of the engagement, you must provide the person who appointed you to conduct the audit with a signed declaration of independence and conduct. This declaration must be signed by you and all members of the audit team

and must state:

If you or any team members have a conflict of interest or breach independence requirements under the Specifications.

Please indicate whether you have breached the auditor rotation requirements and whether an exemption has been granted.

Finally, please confirm that you will comply with the Code of Conduct.

The appointment of the audit team leader is a personal decision and cannot be delegated to another registered greenhouse and energy auditor.

For further details, refer to Part 2 of the Codes of practice.

Comply with the requirements for rotating team leaders

Audit team leaders should not lead more than 5 consecutive Part 6 audits of the same kind for one audited body.

After every set of 5 consecutive Part 6 audits, the audited body should engage a different audit team leader for at least the next 2 Part 6 audits.

Additionally, it is recommended that auditors do not oversee the entire life cycle of an carbon credit project. We suggest that participants engage at least 2 auditors from different audit firms to reduce the likelihood of being selected for additional audits.

Comply with the requirements for peer reviewer rotation

If an individual has led an audit team for a Part 6 audit, it is necessary to wait for a minimum of two years before assuming the role of a peer reviewer for the same type of Part 6 audit for that audited body. This requirement is in accordance with the assurance standard ISQM 2 Engagement Quality Reviews.
