A Category A asset appraisal report provides assurance that you are eligible to apply for carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs).

Category A asset appraisal reports support:

your CDRC application each year;

an application where we have requested an audit report; and

our broader compliance monitoring strategy.

Category A asset appraisal reports provide a reliable basis for market pricing and are a prerequisite for transparency and trust in transactions.

Purpose of category A asset appraisal reports

A Category A asset appraisal report must be completed by a registered appraisal institution with no conflict of interest.

You should engage with a registered appraisal institution early to ensure that the carbon data asset valuation report can be lodged with your application for carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs). We recommend contacting your registered appraisal institution at least 4 months before submitting your application.

Who can complete an category A asset appraisal report?

Requirements for registered appraisal institution

The registered appraisal institution should comply with the relevant local legal requirements.

The registered appraisal institution should be familiar with processes related to carbon data rights certificate (CDRC) applications, including understanding:

what a carbon data asset is;

the Certificates Market Register rules;

current terminology for the relevant method; and

current requirements for the relevant method.

When reviewing an application, the registered appraisal institution should consider whether the applicant has:

demonstrated accountability;

provided any false statements or withheld information; and

prepared a basis of preparation report that defines the EITE activity or activities on the site.

The registered appraisal institution should also be able to advise whether they foresee any potential issues arising in the future.
