Failed carbon data rights certificates

Last updated 21 May 2025

The Operating Companies audits certificates created under the BidCarbon Standard Scheme, and during the audit process, carbon data rights certificates may be failed.

There are many reasons why carbon data rights certificates may be failed by the Operating Companies. Certificates may be failed if the person creating them:

provides incorrect, invalid or duplicate information (such as duplicate serial numbers)

supplies incorrect or incomplete documents

What you can do about failed certificates

When certificates are failed by the Operating Companies, you will be notified through the BUC Registry. If you have been notified of failed certificates, or have requested to fail them, you may recreate them if the failure notification advises you to do so, all errors have been rectified, the BidCarbon removal unit is eligible and the asset valuation report was issued less than 12 months ago.

For eligible BidCarbon removal units, you can re-create carbon data rights certificates by:

following the carbon data rights certificate creation process and re-entering the corrected information into the BUC Registry

selecting 'Yes' to 'Are you creating certificates for a system that has previously been failed by the Operating Companies' and entering the failed accreditation code. Also insert an  explanatory note in the free text field, detailing why the carbon data rights certificates were originally failed, and

if required, providing the Operating Companies with additional information in the 'additional information' or 'additional document information' field to prove the unit is eligible, including:

audit report

asset appraisal report

asset appraisal valuation ontract

statutory declarations

resolutions or decision letters

supplier agreement

Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Company Registration Number (CRN)

ownership

statutory declarations.

The Operating Companies aims to validate re-created carbon data rights certificates within 4 weeks. If additional information is required, this process may take longer.
