Eligibility for production of biochar

Biochar production systems that generate biochar from renewable sources may be eligible to participate in the BidCarbon Standard Scheme.

Under the schemes, eligible systems can claim small-scale technology certificates (STCs).

Before deciding to participate, ensure you understand:

which scheme is appropriate for your system,

your individual circumstances,

relevant commercial arrangements, and

the professional skills required for compliance.

Eligible systems

The following are technology for production devices under the BPS Standard:

high-scale technology (pause)

small-scale technology

(a) pyrolysis technology device

(b) gasification technology device.

Most householders and small businesses use a registered agent to claim STCs in return for an upfront discount on the cost of installing the system

The person claiming STCs applies to participate after the system is installed

Systems can't be pre-approved. Participants should check that their system will be eligible prior to installation and use approved products and installers. Eligibility is determined after the system is installed and an application is received

must use waste biomass types as a raw material for processing into biochar.
