A BidCarbon Removal Unit (BRU) is the verified carbon removal or reduction outcome – one BRU equals one tonne of CO₂e (tCO₂e), with a unique serial number for full traceability. A Carbon Data Rights Certificate (CDRC) packages BRUs into a tradable data product, recorded in the BUC Registry and tradeable on the open market or BidCarbon Marketplace.

In China, the Interim Provisions on Accounting Treatment of Enterprise Data Resources (Ministry of Finance, effective 2024) enable qualifying data resources to be recognised as intangible assets or inventory on the balance sheet. CDRCs provide a structured pathway for carbon data to meet these requirements – delivering both environmental integrity and financial recognition.

All projects within the BidCarbon Standard Scheme undergo assessment via the Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation (TAPE) with regard to non-carbon benefits. TAPE evaluates various types of production systems and sub-sectors, including crop and livestock production, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry. Baseline agricultural sustainability can be established via TAPE to aid in project design, monitoring, and evaluation. Moreover, TAPE can analyse and compare the performance of diverse agricultural systems over time on both farm and territorial levels. Therefore, it has the potential to enable the realignment of public investment towards more sustainable agriculture and food systems.
