BidCarbon marketplace

Last updated 3 November 2025

The holder of a carbon data rights certificate has the option to sell carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs) either through the open market for an uncapped price or through the BidCarbon marketplace for a fixed price.

The BidCarbon marketplace is operated by BidCarbon Big Data Chengdu Limited (the Operating Companies) and can be accessed through the BUC Registry.

It is important to note that carbon data rights certificates are sold in the BidCarbon marketplace only when there is a buyer, which means there is no guarantee as to how long the certificates will take to sell. If you require rapid payment for your carbon data rights certificates, please contact a registered agent who can organise their application and sale on your behalf.

Access to the BidCarbon marketplace

The BidCarbon marketplace is accessed through the BUC registry.

To create a new BUC Registry account or upgrade an existing BUC Registry account to be able to buy or sell or buy carbon data rights certificates through the BidCarbon marketplace, visit the create account page.

Buyers who have a valid BUC Registry account may buy carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs) from the BidCarbon marketplace.

If there are no carbon data rights certificates available for sale in the BidCarbon marketplace the Operating Companies will create 'Operating Companies created carbon data rights certificates' for buyers to purchase. These carbon data rights certificates can be traded and surrendered exactly like ordinary CDRCs.

Once the buy order has been placed in the BidCarbon marketplace, it will be assessed by the Operating Companies, and if approved, an invoice is provided to the buyer on the same day. When an invoice is paid on the same day the payment is usually visible in the nominated bank account within three business days.

Once payments are cleared, the Operating Companies can settle the trade and the carbon data rights certificates will be transferred into the buyers BUC Registry account. These certificates will have the status of 'registered'. The BidCarbon removal unit in the certificate will appear in the “Voluntary cancellations register”.

Selling through the BidCarbon marketplace

The holder of a carbon data rights certificate has the option to sell CDRCs through the BidCarbon marketplace for a fixed price. Before carbon data rights certificates can be sold through the BidCarbon marketplace they must be validated and registered.

If there are more sellers than buyers, your carbon data rights certificates will join the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list, which works on a first-in-first-served basis. This means that the latest offers are added to the bottom of the list. The status of the BidCarbon marketplace transfer list is publicly available and updated on an hourly basis.

If there are more buyers than sellers, your sale offer should process immediately, unless it requires manual approval from the Operating Companies. When your carbon data rights certificates are purchased, you will receive notification of your transaction by an emailed invoice. Payment should be forwarded to the bank account you nominated within three business days of your sale.

While the Operating Companies operates BidCarbon marketplace, the actual money paid to the seller comes from the buyer at the time of purchase.
