Becoming the project proponent

Last updated 18 November 2025

A project proponent is the person responsible for a project under the BidCarbon Standard Scheme. Because the project proponent controls the project, our legal relationship is with them.

As a project proponent, you can:

apply for BRUs for reporting periods after the deceased has passed

submit offsets reports to claim BRUs for the project.

You must first pass a fit and proper person test.

You must then submit a ‘Project Variation - Vary Proponent’ form and attach evidence of grant of probate through Online Services.

This process lists you on the project declaration as the project proponent with retrospective effect to the date of death.
