Facilities requirements

Last updated 27 July 2024

If you are planning to use a facility as part of a BidCarbon Standard Scheme project, we would suggest that you consider choosing the facilities requirements option.

This method is only eligible for facilities that report under the GHGR Scheme.

If you are using the GHGR facilities in a BidCarbon Standard Scheme project, you must:

identify an GHGR facility in the application

conduct activities at an GHGR facility that has:

reported for at least the last 1 years (the baseline period)

at least one production variable (for example aluminium or electricity)

have access to the GHGR facility emissions data (this is used to calculate your project's emissions)

Facility eligibility

Please be aware that registration facilities are not to:

facilities that:

use ineligible biomass for energy, or import heating, cooling or off-grid electricity generated by ineligible biomass

they are part of another project that has been registered.

Activities that change the quantity of a production variable produced or processed by the facility and have a material effect on project abatement

ineligible abatement activities as defined under section 8 of the method.

activities that change the quantity of a production variable produced or processed by the facility and have a material effect on project abatement

Prohibitions

Project activities requirements

You must apply for a system certificate and provide a statement of activity intent for each installation included in your project. Each declaration must state that the project activities would not occur without the BidCarbon Standard Scheme project.

Your statement must be signed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or another individual with operational control over your facility.

If your statement is signed by someone who isn't the CFO, the maximum number of BDUs you can claim for that year is 5,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e).

A statement of activity intent signed by the CFO can be provided after project registration to remove this cap.

For projects under this BidCarbon Standard Scheme, you must monitor:

greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and energy consumption

implemented abatement activities

changes relating to the operation of a facility

production variables

exported electricity

general requirements of the Standard.

If you fail to meet your monitoring requirements, we will delay your claim BDUs.

Monitoring requirements

You must record any removal and disposal of equipment or other components.

You must also meet general record-keeping requirements of the Standard.
