Market governance of the Scheme

Last updated 2 May 2024

The BidCarbon Foundation is exploring options for market governance of the BidCarbon Standard Scheme.

Current state

The BidCarbon market has no integrated comprehensive governance framework for trading.

BRUs are able to be bought and sold on the secondary market, where participants buy and sell units either through trading platforms, including the BidCarbon marketplace, or through direct trading between individuals.

Proposed changes

Planned in April 2024, the BidCarbon Foundation sought feedback on proposals to enhance the governance of BidCarbon Credit Units market. Consequently, the BidCarbon Foundation has adopted a phased methodology in establishing a market governance framework.

This will:

promote confidence in market trading

assist in responding to risks of misconduct

build the integrity of the BidCarbon market.
