Dividing a project into separate parts for reporting

A BidCarbon Standard Scheme project can be divided into parts for reporting purposes.

Each part is considered an independent project with the same conditions, reporting obligations, and compliance requirements.

Therefore, it is necessary to submit individual project reports and apply for BidCarbon removal units (BRUs) for each separate part.

Before you divide a project

Dividing a project may result in additional obligations, as each separate part of the project must comply with the Act, the Rule, and the applicable method. It is recommended to carefully consider whether dividing the project is suitable for your circumstances and seek professional advice if necessary.

Things to consider:

Each part of the project will have its own reporting and record-keeping requirements. Reporting timelines may vary.

Additional audits may need to be scheduled or required for each part of the project, particularly if the project is divided before the end of the first reporting period. This is due to the fact that each separate part will require an initial audit.

It is important to avoid gaps between offset reports, which is a risk if you divide a project and then later recombine it.

To divide a project, you must provide written notice via post or email.

Your notice should include:

the project name and reference code

the start and end dates for the division

the number of parts the project will be divided into

and details of which sites will be in each part of the divided project. Each part should be clearly identifiable. For area-based projects, provide a scaled map that identifies the project area for each part.

Additionally, include details on how the division meets the method requirements.

How to divide a project

During the project's crediting period, it is possible to divide the project as needed.

However, it is important to ensure that the division period ends in the future and does not overlap with any previously reported periods. For instance, if a project's crediting period starts on January 1, 2024, and the first offsets report covers the period from January 1, 2024, to February 25, 2025, any subsequent division period must meet the aforementioned criteria. The notice for dividing the project on May 1, 2025 should not indicate that the division:

starts on or before February 25, 2025, as that period has already been reported on. or

ends on or before May 1, 2025, as the division end date must be in the future.

Division period

Upon receipt of a valid notice, we will respond promptly by:

confirm its validity and dividing the project into parts for the specified period.

will provide detailed instructions on how to report on each part of the project and

confirm the project's audit schedule as it applies to each project part, if applicable.

After you submit

If the project has conditional registration, each divided part will be subject to the same condition(s) as the overall project.

If the relevant condition(s) are met for a part of the project before the end of the first reporting period, a certificate of entitlement may be issued for that part. However, the other parts must still meet any relevant condition(s) before the end of the first reporting period to receive a certificate of entitlement.

At the conclusion of the designated period, the project will 'recombine', rendering the entire project conditional. If deemed necessary, an application may be submitted to eliminate the Before BRUs can be issued, it is necessary that all conditions relevant to the project are met.

Reporting should be conducted with regard to the project as a whole, and all pertinent conditions must be satisfied prior to the issuance of BRUs. If deemed necessary, an application may be submitted to eliminate the relevant conditions from the project declaration once they have been met for the project in its entirety.
