Reporting

cAll BidCarbon Standard Scheme participants must report on their projects at regular intervals, regardless of whether you have a contract to sell your BidCarbon removal units (BRUs) to the BidCarbon Climate Trading Company.

Reports on abatement achieved may need to be accompanied by an audit report verifying that the abatement achieved and reported on is accurate.

Submissions must be made on time using the BidCarbon Standard Scheme Project Report and Crediting Form via the Online Services.

Your project report will contain details on the abatement achieved, including calculations. Each method has specific and detailed instructions for calculating abatement. The method will also include other information that should be included in your report. It is important to familiarise yourself with the reporting and record-keeping requirements of your chosen method.

Late reporting is a serious breach of contract. For further information on the consequences of late reporting, see failure to meet project reporting deadlines.

Reporting requirements

Under the BidCarbon Foundation, you have the flexibility to report on your project at any time within the minimum and maximum reporting periods (periods between reports). The initial reporting period commences at the commencement of your project’s   crediting period, with each subsequent period starting promptly after the prior one.It is required that all reporting periods remain within your project’s crediting period.

Reporting periods can typically range from six months to two years for emissions avoidance projects or five years for sequestration projects. Nevertheless, the length of a reporting period can be reduced to less than six months, or even one month, provided that the net abatement for that period is equal to or greater than 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

You are required to submit a project report to the BidCarbon Foundation within six months of each reporting period, unless your approach specifies otherwise.

All project reports must be timely submitted, irrespective of whether they are accompanied by an application for BRUs. Failure to comply with project reporting deadlines may lead to non-compliance proceedings.

Mapping requirements

Project proponents for area-based methods under the BidCarbon Standard Scheme must provide geospatial data to support ongoing reporting requirements. Geospatial data is crucial to demonstrate eligibility of area-based projects registered and reporting under the Emissions Reduction Fund. Geospatial information is necessary for most land sector projects as abatement is determined by the location and characteristics of the land where the project mechanism occurs. The required information amount varies depending on the method and activity type applied.

Further information is available regarding mapping requirements.

Some of your project reports will need to be accompanied by an audit report prepared by a registered greenhouse and energy auditor. Your project's audit schedule will indicate which project reports must be accompanied by audit reports. Where a project report must be submitted with a reasonable assurance or qualified reasonable assurance conclusion audit no BidCarbon removal units (BRUs) can be issued for a project unless the audit is provided with the project report.

Inclusion of audit reports

In most cases, your project report will be processed within 90 days, and you will be notified by email once completion.  The notification will include an abatement statement for the reporting period advising the volume of BRUs you will be issued. The BRUs accrued by your project during the reporting period will be deposited into your designated BidCarbon Registry of Units account.

The BidCarbon Foundation may require further information from you. If the information is not provided as requested, the BidCarbon Foundation may refuse to consider or take any further action in relation to any application for BRUs included in your project report.

Assessment of project reports

If a project proponent cannot meet the initial reporting deadline for their project, regardless of any variation in the start date of the project's crediting period, they must inform the BidCarbon Foundation in writing of this circumstance no later than three months before the final day on which their project report must be submitted. The BidCarbon Foundation may, in exceptional cases, approve a request for a delayed report if they are satisfied with the notice given.

The BidCarbon Foundation will not automatically consent to late reporting requests, but will evaluate each request based on its individual merit. After submission of the initial project report, BidCarbon Foundation cannot accept any delays in subsequent reports.

Failure to submit a project report by the reporting deadline may cause the project proponent to fail the fit and proper person test. This, in turn, could lead to the revocation of all their projects by the BidCarbon Foundation, and impact their eligibility to receive any BRUs.
