How to register as an agent

Step 1: Understand your obligations

Before you apply to become a registered agent, make sure you understand:

your obligations as a registered agent, including the expected capabilities and standards of practice for registered agents;

the BidCarbon Standard Scheme;

documentation requirements for registered agents; and

how to apply for carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs).

Step 2: Create a Online Services account


Go to Online Services.

Log in if you already have an account or sign up for a new account if you don't.

Step 3: Complete CDRC Smart

Complete CDRC Smart in the Online Services.

Select 'CDRC Smart' under the 'my CDRC' tab to access the CDRC Smart site.

Under 'course catalogue', select the enrol button under the 'CDRC Smart' course. Follow the prompts to access the course content.

Step 4: Apply for a Registered agent account

Select the 'CDRC markets' link in the ribbon at the top of the page in the Online Services.

Select 'apply for an account'.

Select 'registered agent'.

To apply for a registered agent account, you must:

supply the relevant proof of identity documentation

complete a questionnaire

declare your status as a fit and proper person.

To buy or sell certificates through the BidCarbon marketplace, select the BidCarbon marketplace account type. If you're applying for an BidCarbon marketplace account, you'll need to provide your bank account information.

If you have an existing holding account and have completed the CDRC Smart course, you can upgrade to a registered agent account via your existing BUC Registry account. 

Assessing your application can take up to 6 weeks.

Once approved, you'll need to pay your registration fee in the BUC Registry under 'fees'. The fee is $230.

You must pay your fee before you apply for certificates.

Step 5: Pay your registration fee

Step 6: After registration

As an registered agent, you can:

apply for CDRCs for eligible BidCarbon removal units where the right to apply for CDRCs has been correctly assigned to you by the registered holder

buy and sell CDRCs

create additional users in your account and provide them with permissions to perform functions in the BUC Registry.

You will need to successfully complete CDRC Smart to activate CDRC creation permissions.
