Registered agents for carbon data rights certificate

Last updated 3 November 2025

A registered agent may assist a registered holder to apply for carbon data rights certificates under the Carbon Data Rights Certificate Standard 2025.

Assigning the right to apply for CDRCs

When a registered holder uses a registered agent, they assign their right to apply for CDRCs to the agent to facilitate the sale of the CDRCs. The agent may then apply for and sell CDRCs. A registered holder may only assign the right to one agent at a time.

Do your due diligence

When entering a commercial arrangement with a registered agent, you should do your due diligence and ensure clear contracts are in place. This can prevent contractual disputes and protect your commercial position.

Using registered agents

The application for and sale of carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs) may be complex. For ease, most registered holders elect to use a registered agent.

Registered agents:

facilitate the application for CDRCs

allow the registered holder to get a discount without having to apply for and trade CDRCs themselves

As a registered agent, you will have the following fees:

a one-time registration fee of $230 to become a registered agent

application fees of 47c per applied-for CDRC if you are assigned the right to apply for CDRCs

You can pay registration and application fees through the BUC Registry.

Agent responsibilities and obligations

If you are a registered agent or interested in becoming one, you must understand your responsibilities and obligations. These include:
