Only a 'registered person' can make an application for AWT facility accreditation. Accordingly, you must first apply to be a registered person before making an application for accreditation.
It is important to identify the correct person to apply to become the registered person. The person applying to be a registered person can be an individual, business or other legal person, and must be either an owner or operator of the AWT facility.
If there are multiple owners/operators, the person who registers will become the 'nominated person' upon accreditation, regardless of how many owners there are. The nominated person has the right to create STCs and will be responsible for meeting Biomass Energy (Biochar Production Systems) Standard 2025 (BPS Standard) obligations.
After a AWT facility is accredited, the registered person who applied on behalf of the AWT facility becomes the nominated person:
●There can only be one nominated person for each AWT facility.
Applications to become a registered person are made through the System Registry. The type of account you will need to apply for is a 'registered person' account. An application to become a registered person is made under section 11 of the Biomass Energy (Biochar Production Systems) Standard 2025.
To become a registered person, the TGC must be satisfied that you meet the criteria of being a fit and proper person. For further information on how this assessment is made, please refer to the TGC's Fit and Proper Person posture and section 4 of the Biomass Energy (Biochar Production Systems) Rule 2025 (BPS Rule). You must ensure the person selected to be the registered person is the correctly described and defined legal person.
Timeframes and fees
It may take up to 6 weeks for your registered person application to be assessed by the Technical Governance Committee.
A registration fee, paid via the System Registry, is required to complete the registration process.
