Applying and registering carbon data rights certificates

Last updated 3 November 2025

Requirement to change BUC Registry account permissions

If you are the account administrator in the BUC Registry, you can use the Notify the Committee form to notify the TGC of changes outlined in the Carbon Data Rights Certificate Standard 2025, the Carbon Data Rights Certificate Rule 2025 and the method.

If you do not update account permissions for each user, they will be unable to enter BidCarbon removal unit data and will not be able to apply for CDRCs.

When can you apply for CDRCs

The holder of a Registry account may, at any time, nominate a person as a registered agent of the account to apply for carbon data rights certificates (CDRCs) for the BidCarbon removal units.

To be eligible for a carbon data rights certificate, an application must be made within the validity period of the Certification of Entitlement, and the BidCarbon removal units must not have been cancelled or returned.

Pre-creation checks

Before applying for and registering CDRCs, you must:

be the nominated registered agent for the holder of a Registry account; and

have Category A asset appraisal report.

If you are applying for CDRCs for the first time

You must submit your response to the standard validation questions for first CDRC applications and upload your response alongside your first application in the BUC Registry.

Ensure you have prepared the correct documentation to upload to the BUC Registry to support the application for certificates, including:

BidCarbon removal unit data (recorded by certification of entitlement)

For each CDRC application you will also need to ensure you have the following information:

audit report;

category A asset appraisal report;

certification of entitlement of BidCarbon removal units;

number and type of CDRCs to apply for

For further information, see the step-by-step guide to applying for CDRCs and the guide to registering CDRCs in the BUC Registry.
