A PyCCS project may involve an activity area, a facility or unit, and a project area. Source-separation activities are carried out within the activity area. Eligible renewable energy sources are transported from the activity area to a nominated waste treatment facility or unit for processing into biochar. The resulting biochar is then transported to and applied within the project area or, where permitted under the PyCCS Method, outside the project area.
A PyCCS project may use a purpose-built facility or unit for processing eligible waste biomass that would otherwise have been:
●disposed of in landfill;
●crushed and returned to farmland in an uncomposted state;
●burned; or
●improperly disposed of as waste.
The facility or unit may be newly constructed or may be an existing facility or unit that is expanded, modified or adapted for the project.
